Hi friends!
One of the hardest parts about entrepreneurship is that mentors can be hard to come by. You’re no longer plugged into a company’s network, and it can be awkward to cold email someone you admire for time on their calendar.
I wanted to share with you one of my favorite resources for when I’m looking for a little guidance and inspiration: The Profile.
Every week, my good friend Polina Marinova sorts through the slew of internet content to find you the best profiles on the most interesting people and companies. Her newsletter has been a constant source of inspiration for me as I try to navigate my way through every entrepreneurship challenge that comes my way.
Last week, she published an interview with one of my favorite authors James Clear and I found myself taking notes because the wisdom was PLENTIFUL. Here are some of the most salient lessons from that interview:
1. On building an audience
Pick a cadence that you are excited about and that you feel you can stick to.
2. On building better habits
Start with one small habit that provides evidence of being a certain kind of person. The process of changing habits = the process of rewriting your story.
Your identity changes based on the room that you’re in. Join groups where the desired behavior is the normal behavior.
3. On building a company
Entrepreneurship is a personal growth engine in disguise. There’s nowhere to hide your flaws because they influence your business in every way. You have to address them because if you don’t your business gets wrecked because of them.
That’s it for today! In the meantime, we highly recommend you grab your favorite coffee (currently a Chemex for me) and dive into any of the stories we’ve already published.
Our piece on the small town in Oregon fighting against a natural gas project got some high praise on Twitter this week:
